What is CUFA?
Working cooperatively to make a difference the Credit Union Foundation Australia, CUFA, is the development agency for the Australian credit union movement.
CUFA, an AusAID accredited development agency, is funded by AusAID grants and donations from Australian credit unions and their members to support people in the Asia Pacific region to develop viable credit unions in their communities. CUFA also works domestically with credit unions on social responsibility and access issues.
CUFA relies heavily on the considerable interest of a core group of credit unions for the project funds necessary to continue its work. This core group shares a common understanding and focus on the benefits gained by fulfilling the international development obligations of the Australian credit union movement.
The aim of CUFA's partnerships is to develop skills in leadership and management of financial cooperatives. CUFA functions as facilitator, coordinator and trainer to bring together various regional elements to promote the collective knowledge that has accumulated in the credit union system over the past 150 years.
